Cookie Policy

Last updated: September 2026

The short version

This site uses cookies. Only the ones that are strictly necessary to make it work are set automatically. Everything else — analytics, advertising, anything that tracks you — is only set if you agree to it, and you can change your mind at any time without losing access to the site.

Section 4 lists what we actually use. Section 5 tells you how to turn things on and off.

This policy covers the Financefinity website only. It should be read alongside our Privacy Notice, which covers everything else we do with your information, and our Website Terms and Conditions.

1. Who we are

This website is owned and operated by Motorfinity Group Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 10546007, whose registered office is 3 Northgate Terrace, Northern Road, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG24 2EU. Financefinity is a trading style of Motorfinity Group Limited.

Any question about cookies or this policy: hello@financefinity.co.uk, or write to us at the address above.

2. What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website puts on your device when you visit. When you come back, the site can read what it stored and recognise something about your previous visit — that you were logged in, what you had selected, or simply that you had been before.

Similar technologies do the same job by other means: pixels and tracking tags in pages and emails, and data stored by your browser rather than in a cookie file. Where this policy says "cookies", it means all of them.

3. The law, and what it means for consent

Cookies are governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), and — where a cookie involves your personal information — by the UK GDPR.

The rule is narrower than most sites imply. A cookie may be set without asking you only if it is strictly necessary to provide the service you have asked for. "Strictly necessary" means the site genuinely will not work without it. It does not include anything set because it is useful to us: analytics is not strictly necessary, and neither is advertising.

So everything outside that category is set only once you have given consent, and:

  • consent has to be a positive act — carrying on scrolling is not consent, and neither is a pre-ticked box;
  • refusing has to be as easy as accepting; and
  • you can withdraw consent later, and the site must still work if you do.

4. The cookies we use

4.1 Strictly necessary

These keep the site working and secure — page delivery, load balancing, security, and remembering your cookie choices themselves. They cannot be switched off here, though you can block them in your browser, in which case parts of the site will stop working.

4.2 Analytics

We use Google Analytics, through Google Tag Manager, to understand how the site is used: how many people visit, which pages they read, how they arrived, and where they give up. We use it to fix what is not working. These are set only with your consent.

CookieSet byWhat it doesHow long it lasts
_gaGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes one visitor from another, so that repeat visits are not counted as new people2 years
_ga_<id>Google AnalyticsKeeps track of the current visit (the session) for that Analytics property2 years

Google Analytics data is held by Google, and Google uses it for its own purposes as well as ours — it is not a service that simply hands us a report and forgets. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

4.3 Functional

These remember choices you have made — a preference, something you have dismissed — so that you do not have to make them again. Set only with your consent.

4.4 Targeting and advertising

These record which pages you visited and which links you followed, so that advertising you are shown elsewhere can be based on it. They are usually set by another company rather than by us, and that company can often recognise you across other sites too. Set only with your consent.

4.5 Third-party cookies

Some cookies on our pages are set by other companies whose services we use, rather than by us. We choose who we work with, but we do not control what they store, and their own policies govern it.

[TO CONFIRM BEFORE PUBLICATION — sections 4.1, 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5 describe categories rather than naming individual cookies, because the full live inventory has not been scanned. PECR expects each cookie to be named with its purpose and duration. Run a cookie scan against the live site and either complete the table in 4.2 for every cookie found, or delete any category above that turns out not to be in use. The Analytics rows are the standard Google Analytics 4 cookies and should be checked against what the tag manager container is actually configured to load.]

5. Giving, changing and withdrawing your consent

We ask for your consent before setting anything that is not strictly necessary, and you can change your answer at any time.

[TO CONFIRM BEFORE PUBLICATION — this section must name the actual consent mechanism and how a visitor reopens it. The captured pages load the tag manager container on page load with no consent banner or consent-mode gating visible in the page source, so as things stand the statements above and in section 16 of the Privacy Notice are not delivered by the site. Either a consent tool needs to be in place before this goes live, or both documents need to be rewritten to describe what actually happens.]

In your browser. Independently of anything we offer, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and block third-party cookies specifically. Blocking everything will break parts of this and most other sites. The settings are under Privacy in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and under Privacy and Security in Safari.

6. Cookies that expire, and cookies that do not

A session cookie lasts until you close your browser, and then it is gone.

A persistent cookie has an expiry date written into it and survives until that date, or until you delete it. The durations in section 4 are the maximum: a cookie's clock is generally reset each time you return, so a two-year cookie on a site you visit monthly will not in practice expire.

7. Other sites we link to

We link to sites run by other people — lenders, partners, and sites we think are useful. Once you follow a link you are on their site under their rules, and their cookie and privacy policies apply, not ours. It is worth reading them if you are going to use the site for anything.

8. Complaints

If you are not happy with how we use cookies, email hello@financefinity.co.uk and we will look into it. Our Complaints Policy sets out what happens next.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which regulates this, at any time — whether or not you have raised it with us first.

The ICO also publishes guidance for the public on cookies and how to control them, at ico.org.uk/for-the-public/online/cookies.

9. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when what we use changes. When we do, we change the "Last updated" date at the top. If we start using a new category of cookie, we will ask for your consent again rather than relying on the answer you gave before.
